THE 2009 - 2010 POET LAUREATE RUNNERS-UP


First Runner-Up ~  Sheila Tingley Moore
A member of SAPA, PST, and NFSPS, Sheila is immediate past president of SAPA, immediate past Poet Laureate Emeritus, and the 2005 and 2006 Poet Laureate, as well as Texas Senior Poet Laureate for the Kitchener Foundation. An award-winning poet who won SAPA’s Poetic Excellence Award seven times, she has published seven of her own poetry collections and has been published in countless anthologies and publications.

Fourth Runner-Up ~ Peter Holland

A member of SAPA, PST, and NFSPS, Peter serves SAPA as parliamentarian and

notifications chair. This past year he assisted the Laurel Crown board with book sales at the Awaken the Sleeping Poet Festival, and he served on the registration committee for the NFSPS convention in 2006. He has a BA in history and enjoys writing historical poetry. Peter is published in Inkwell Echoes, Voices Along the River, and The Dreamcatcher, and has published several chapbooks. He is a well known reader at several local poetry venues.

Second Runner Up ~ Juan Manuel Perez
Juan Manuel Perez is the author of six poetry chapbooks and is currently working on a poetry collection to honor Trinidad Sanchez, Jr. titled W.U.I : Written Under the Influence of Trinidad Sanchez, Jr. He is a member of the San Antonio Poets’Association, The Poetry Society Of Texas, The San Angelo Writers’ Club, and the Science Fiction Poetry Association, as well as, a student of the great Chicano poet Trinidad Sánchez, Jr. He has been a featured reader at many poetry venues in Texas and is available for readings out of state as well. Juan writes poetry on a variety of subjects like Mexican-American/Native American life, comic books, science fiction, horror and food. His poems have appeared in dozens of journals, reviews, and anthologies. Juan is a ten-year Navy/Marine veteran and former Combat medic serving in the First GulfWar (1991). Presently, he is a public high school history teacher in La Pryor, Texas where he lives.
